Children of Men is built from its theme that children are what hold society together on both a spiritual and physical level.

The world it paints serves the sole purpose of stripping our view of the world down to one that resonates with the movie's theme.  It strips away what we assume will leave an impact on the future by showing that without children there is no future. The scene in the abandoned school building solidifies this in the viewers minds by bringing the theme front and center. Images of the decaying classroom paired with the characters' dialog show what little, if any, is left with out children. 

Using everything within the film to elevate the theme works excellently for the cinematography and dialog but leaves the plot a little underwhelming. After his choice to start his journey near the beginning the movie, the main character is left with no reasonable alternative but to continue. This leaves the viewer more or less just along for the ride. 

Overall this is a perfect movie if you love dystopian futures or films that ask what if about society.
