Fall 2019 cont.
Sharon was ready for sushi as much as she ever could be. At the table Sharon saw Joe and three agents having a time. It looked like they left her a spot between Joe and a brunette with the bar set with what she could discern as not sushi.
When she got to the table, Joe turned around to let her in on the joke before breaking into laughter, “Sharon, Miss Duval assured me that you wanted pancakes and only pancakes.”
“Can you tell her that I’ve never needed it more in my whole life?” Sharon stated while staring at Miss Duval now just an elbow away.
The two locked eyes as Miss Duval let her know, “Joe caught me up on your last ten years and you know I think it's never too late for pancakes.”
Sharon savored a few syrupy bites before Miss Duval had to ask, “Better?”
“You know honestly, a little,” Sharon answered, “So you know? I also got the “I dated a narcissist and all I got was this borrowed sweater” sweater.”
Duval chuckled, “Maybe we should start a club.”
“Maybe, a club for two, “ Sharon let slip right when the shop lulled, letting every word bounce across the restaurant.
While Sharon buried her now beet red face in her food, Joe commented over her, “Wow, she really is like that all of the time.”
Miss Duval patted Sharon on the back and confirmed, “Sadly, it's the only perk of our sweater club.”
“It’s always a show with this one, come on, go, get out of here,” Joe told them with a wave of her arm.
Out on the street Duval began with a joke, “I see you for the first time in like ten years, and you get me kicked out of the most important business meeting of my life.”
“Well, what if I really finally needed you?” Sharon hit back.
“Oh like you really needed that jerk to sleep with you?” Miss Dual grew testy with Sharon's never ending assertiveness.
Never missing a beat Sharon inquired, “What if I told you I was jealous?”
“Of me right?” Duval took the bait to her delight.
She couldn’t resist at this point and stated plainly, “Well at first, but for the past ten years I’ve been insatiably Jealous of Deb.”
Duval tried to correct her before Sharon met her lips, sealing their thoughts away for good.
“If you give me a moment, I’ll be on my way,” Sharon assured her while motioning for Miss Duval’s phone and she gladly obliged.
After looking back at her phone she assured Sharon, “I’ll call you tomorrow, Zelda,” before heading back inside to finish up her business.
Sharon wandered down Lake Street with no business left, and no regrets.
